MaiTai Freestyle Invitational
Presented by MaiTai Global and the World Kiteboarding League, the MaiTai Freestyle Invitational was held in Cabarete beach on July 12th-17th, 2016 and was the inaugural kiteboarding competition with the top athletes in the world. The WKL represents a series of events through the course of a year, and brings together the best female and male kite boarders from around the globe. The previous world event in Cabarete was held in 2007, and Dominican Ariel Corniel won the PKRA championship ( subsequently he won the 2010 Cabarete World Cup and was the second pro to win a pro title in Cabarete ).
The event offers other activities for participants, including parties, tours and the unique lifestyle of Cabarete. The first day of the event saw an important meeting for the riders to discuss the implementation of the new competition format. The event was featured in major international magazines such as Kite World Magazine, and is one of the top competitions happening in the North Coast town of Cabarete.
Susi Mai and Bill Tai from Maitai Global gave a great talk about their personal motivation to organize this wonderful event, and Danny Galiart, CEO of the World Kiteboarding League also spoke about the origins of the new Tour. About 30 men and 12 women registered for the event, of over 10 different nationalities.
The next Mai Tai Invitational is scheduled for July 2017 in Cabarete beach.
